Below an interview with Eng. Paolo Rastelli, CEO of Bruschi, about recruiting and talent attraction initiatives of the company.

Which are the main initiatives, in terms of recruiting and talent attraction, in Bruschi?

In the last years, Bruschi has embarked on a path aimed at reforming recruiting strategies and establishing solid bounds with the territory and its schools with a view at creating partnerships with the company that will develop over time.

The goal is to become a reference point for local schools by offering, above all to technical institutes and scientific universities, infrastructures and resources that allow students to live training experiences able to bring them closer to the world of work.

How the collaboration with schools has been developed?

Over the past year we developed PCTO training, the training for the transversal skills and orientation, that has replaced school-to-work alternation, in all company departments. We therefore made ourselves available to welcome young people from different institutes in all our office: not only production and design, but also administration, marketing, logistics and quality office. In this way, we have attracted students form different fields of study by offering them specific training declined on their specific studies.

Our activities with schools do not end here. In fact, accordingly to the aim of addressing a large and varied audience of students, we have undertaken two other important initiatives. Firstly, during 2019, our die-casting experts introduced the company to different classes by participating in meetings organized by schools. Moreover, during 2020, we will host educational visits to allow students to discover not only the die-casting production process but also an important production reality in their territory.

Does Bruschi collaborate also with universities?

Yes, Bruschi has been collaborating with universities for some years now. We have started a series of collaborations with the Polytechnic University of Milan, but also with other realities, to host bachelor and master degree undergraduates in our plants.

University students, in Bruschi, carry out curricular and extracurricular internships, often aimed at writing the degree thesis. In this case, as with schools, enrichment is always mutual.

If you wish to deepen these themes, we recommend clicking on this link to watch an interview (in Italian) of Eng. Rastelli broadcasted by Telelombardia in 2019.

On the recruiting level instead?

Lately we reformed our hiring process thanks to the inclusion of a dedicated person who is in charge of interviewing all candidates for a position in Bruschi. Until recently, this practice was not standardized for all company departments but, with a more personal touch to selection and first contact the results were not long in coming.

Lastly, we have recently responded to an internal need. In Bruschi, in fact, “internal applications”, that is applications from employees’ friends, relatives and acquaintances have always been proposed. To give an answer to these spontaneous applications, we have created a page reserved for employees through which it is possible to propose CVs for the various company departments. Like all the initiatives created to answer a question that is already existing, the page has been quite successful.

What is the future of recruiting in Bruschi?

As always in Bruschi we try to act on several fronts to test different strategies and then consolidate those that are successful. At the moment, several digital projects are being studied to make or recruiting and talent attraction activities even more performing. The basic principle according to which to move, which is also part of our corporate philosophy, is to be ahead of times trying to predict the new technologies to implement and test them promptly.

On December 9th 2019 Bruschi in agreement with HUF finalized the acquisition of HUF production unit in Milwaukee.

The HUF Group develops and produces mechanical and electronic locking systems, as well as vehicle access and authorization systems for the global automotive industry. Established in Velbert by Ernst Hülsbeck and August Fürst in 1908, the family-owned company today has locations in Europe, America and Asia. In the 2018 financial year, the HUF Group generated sales of roughly €1.2 billion and employed more than 10,000 people worldwide.

With a view to proceed with its growth strategy, Bruschi embraced the opportunity of closing the deal with HUF on the transfer of ownership of the production unit in Milwaukee.

The growth that has characterized Bruschi over the last few years, together with the view of the management for the future of manufacturing and innovation, has allowed the actualization of the deal and it represents a further step of Bruschi global development.

Already in the last few months Bruschi invested in the American territory on various fields: such as infrastructures, employment and technology. Bruschi bought a facility in Granville Woods, Milwaukee, where, starting from an abandoned warehouse, it worked and invested in order to turn it into a modern and efficient production unit. Today Bruschi wants to put the same energy into this new adventure: a firm breakthrough in its production capability in North America.

As previously mentioned, in the near future the facility will continue its current production and, already in the coming weeks, Bruschi will combine it with other projects brought by the Italian plant. This agreement with HUF, which becomes a partnership for the next few years, together with the projects brought from Italy, will guarantee a future of work and growth for the facility in Milwaukee.

“The sale of our North American die cast activities to Bruschi enables us to outsource the supply of die cast parts to a strong partner with high expertise, who is able to generate economies of scale due to a broader customer base. Thus, our customers will profit from high quality at improved cost”, Tom Graf, CEO of Huf Group explained. “The acquisition of Huf North America Die Cast perfectly fits into our strategy to expand our global footprint and strengthen our position as experts for zinc die casting in key markets. The site has an excellent track record as manufacturer of high quality Zamak parts for the automotive industry. This ideally complements our customer base in electronics, household appliances, textile and other industries. Our company firmly believes in the United States, both in technological and market terms: this is why we have invested and we will keep investing. Our aim is to grow. In order to grow we will need results that, both in the United States and in Italy, we will have to achieve necessarily. This is how we live market and work. We sell complex systems with the constant aim of TTM reduction, working with global and complex customers and trying to bring in every context our management approach. We do not manufacture products, we are a supplier of solutions and this characteristic allows us to play in multiple sectors.” Paolo Rastelli, CEO of Bruschi said on the occasion of signing the contract.

Bruschi components are part of everyday life: electronics, automotive, electromechanical, building, furniture, lighting, small and major appliances. Being always well-aware that its products will be used frequently, all over the world, by millions of people, Bruschi understands that its clients’ needs span down to those of final end-users: it is their satisfaction the ultimate key for success.

Technology and experience are indeed Bruschi weapons to increasingly achieve better results. It is this approach that can make the difference on the market.

Fieldfisher Dusseldorf acted as legal advisor of HUF INTERNATIONAL GMBH with Jan Hartmann and Ricarda Grzeschik; while Bruschi USA Inc. was represented by TCA Triberti Colombo & Associati with Nicola Salvarani, Federica Ballerini and Stefano Versace.

Last week Bruschi has been awarded as 2019 Excellent Company at the XI edition of Global Strategy Osservatorio PMI, an observatory of Italian SMEs. This is the second time that Bruschi gets this award, thus confirming its position on the market and its growth over the last few years.

Osservatorio PMI analyzes financial statements and data of over 60.000 Italian manufacturing and service companies and Bruschi is among the 722 awarded companies. This is why we are very proud of this achievement, also and especially because it is the second time our company reaches this goal.

Indeed, this award proves the commitment of the entire team to find advanced technological solutions that allow the company to be competitive on a global scale.

A further demonstration that the work of everyone can become a system able to lay the groundwork for the future: in order to reaffirm Bruschi presence on the market in the following years and to keep growing together.

Save the date: on the 24th of November 2019 Bruschi is going to open its gates to the public.

Thanks to Open Factory initiative on the 24th of November 2019 Bruschi is going to open the gates of its plant in Abbiategrasso to the public: visitors will be able to explore our productive plant and to interact with our experts discovering the world of zinc die casting.

What Open Factory is

Open Factory is an initiative promoted by Italy Post, a company that handles communications and events connected to the world of Italian economics and industry, and by L’Economia, the weekly magazine of Corriere della Sera dedicated to the world of economics and finance.

The initiative, which reached its fifth edition, is the most important Italian opening of industrial and manufacturing culture and, in the previous years, it was attended by important production companies. Over time the number of companies and participants has grown up to involve, during the last edition, about 100 companies and over than 20 000 visitors.

The purpose of Open Factory is to introduce to the general public Italian manufacture and its values. Stefano Micelli, scientific director of Fondazione Nord Est, writes: “The companies that collaborate on the Open Factory project are not generic custodians of a past world, to be proposed again to global buyers as glory of yesteryear. They are champions of a new idea of manufacture that explicitly welds tradition and digital culture, which combines artisanal know how with innovation of materials and design, which couples the technical quality of the products with a new story of oneself. Tradition and culture, for these companies, are not objects to be put in a museum case: they are integral part of the DNA of complex organizations that, over time, demonstrated their ability to stay on the frontier of globalization. The visit to many of these premises is a first step in the direction of what Italy of the future could and should be”.

Bruschi for Open Factory

Here in Bruschi we believe that Stefano Micelli’s words are also about us. In fact they reflect the path that, from a company born in 1948 and strongly rooted in its territory, led us, over the years, to expand our Italian plant and to build a new plant in the United States in 2018. Finally, Micelli’s words reflect also our approach to design, based on the concept of functional beauty, and adapted to the needs of mass production.

Thanks to the event we will let the public know our world: we will offer a tour of the plant that will show our machineries in action and will allow the visitors to follow the process that, from the Zamak ingot, through design, leads to the finished product. By interacting with our experts the public will be thus able to know our history and to discover more about our products and our supply chain.

The initiative is dedicated to those who are interested in zinc alloys die casting, engineers, university and non-university students, families and friends of our employees, but also to all those who are curious and that wish to discover this reality and their territory.

To visit Bruschi it will be necessary to register: soon we will provide you all the necessary information. Stay up to date, we hope many of you will come!

Bruschi has been selected among the 600 best Italian SMEs for the project “Champions 2019” by ItalyPost and on the 15th of March it will be attending the event organized by L’Economia, the economic voice of Corriere della Sera, at the head office of the Italian Stock Exchange.

The project “Champions 2019”

“Champions 2019” is a research on small and medium-sized enterprises conducted by ItalyPost in partnership with L’Economia, which analyzes the performance of Italian SMEs that in the last six years have achieved a turnover between 20 and 500 million euros, thus proving outstanding abilities of development and growth.

The study has been carried out by financial analysts of Credit Rating Agency ModeFinance and by financial advisors of Special Affairs, which have selected 600 Italian SMEs that have distinguished themselves for achieving excellent results as regards growth rate, profitability, capital strength and financial independence. Among these 600 companies, 500 of them have reached a 20-120 million turnover, while the remaining ones have accomplished a 120-500 million turnover: these enterprises together represent the main Italian manufacturing group, whose overall revenue is approximately 44 billion.

The research focused not only on financial analysis and profitability, but also on the governance and organizational structures of the SMEs. It also involved their ability to generate high employment levels and the implementation of a method based on commitment to investment and development. These companies have indeed been able to grow despite the difficulties of economic crisis in 2008, reaching a growth rate of 10,67% per year.

Bruschi case

As already mentioned, Bruschi is among the companies selected for the project “Champions 2019”. This is the outcome of an organic turnover growth, which is more than doubled from 2009 to 2018. Bruschi can be therefore considered a fast-growing company characterized by an international vocation (85% of production is intended for foreign markets), which has allowed it to acquire more and more multinational clients and important players of the manufacturing industry.

Paolo Rastelli, Bruschi President and CEO, declared:

“We are proud to have been selected for the project Champions 2019 that includes us among the 600 best Italian SMEs. This result originates from our approach to work: here in Bruschi we always accept new challenges and this has allowed us to grow over the years, developing new skills and establishing relationships with increasingly diversified entities. Our model is based on three key principles: result-oriented approach, willingness to change and inclination to collaboration. A winning model that allows us to compete on international markets and to reach our targets.”
